A Minor Ponderance

Since the Too-Many-Mexicans caucus is agitating about yanking the 14th Amendment…

Say hypothetically that amendment were repealed. An immigrant couple comes to the U.S., undocumented. They have a child. Since the rules of one government can’t address what another government chooses to do with regards to citizenship, wouldn’t the kid be, technically, a citizen of nowhere?

One Response to A Minor Ponderance

Yeah, it would mean that we could treat them like dogs. Wouldn’t that be great!

But seriously, they would probably inherit their parent’s citizenship, regardless of whether the US grants them citizenship.

The thing that I get worried about is whether the kid born in America would be considered an illegal immigrant for his entire life, and whether that status would be passed on to his own kids.
